The National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center (NPDPSC),the only center of its kind in the United States, coordinates autopsies and neuropathologic examinations of suspected prion disease cases from across the country.

The Neurodegenerative Research Core (NRC) provides access to human tissue and bodily fluids from patients suspected of neurodegenerative diseases. It offers routine histologic and special stains and immunohistochemical stains specific for neurodegenerative diseases. The NRC also offers instrumentation and essential reagents used to perform Real-Time Quaking-Induced Conversion assays.
