Barbara Sciulli celebrates 50 years at 窪蹋勛圖厙

Barbara Sciulli

On Jan. 2 of this year, Barbara Sciulli celebrated her 50th anniversary working at 窪蹋勛圖厙.

Since Nov. of 1985, Barbara has supported the School of Dental Medicine as registrar and financial aid advisor, but her journey at 窪蹋勛圖厙 began at the Controllers Office in the Accounts Payable department.

When I started, I thought that I would be here for maybe three years, said Barbara. While in the Controllers Office, however, I was able to be promoted three times into three different areas. This gave me a better understanding of how departments work together and just how much effort is put forth behind the scenes.

When asked about her most memorable times during her tenure, Barbara reminisced about her season as a diversity trainer.

I remember the first session we had in 2001 after 9/11, recalled Barbara. I was partnered with another staff member, and we went off-script to let the session evolve. We were both amazed at the empathy shown as we had some researchers of Arabic descent in the group.

Barbaras long and full career has left her with much knowledge of the School of Dental Medicine, and wisdom to share with its students.

Be active in the school and the community, advised Barbara. Keep your options open if you wish to specialize, and remember that dental school is a place not just to learn but to grow into a caring health professional.

I have known Barbara for almost 40 years, said Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs Kristin Williams. In 1985, we started at the dental school together. I was a first-year student and she worked as the Registrar and Financial Aid Officer. Over the years, she has been such a great support for all of our studentsnot only in helping us find creative ways to finance education but she has also been a friend.
