Most health insurance plans, including Medicaid, provide PrEP for free or at a reduced cost. This is applicable to PrEP medication, clinic visits, and lab tests needed to maintain your prescription.

If you have health insurance that requires copay, you can receive co-pay assistance from the following options:

  • Ohio Dept. of Health's Prevention Assistance Program. This organization has eligibility requirements based on income. This program may pay for prescription, lab work, and office co-pays. Apply at the Ohio Dept. of Health .
  • Patient Advocacy Foundation. This organization has eligibility requirements based on income. You may qualify for co-pay relief .
  • ViiVConnect. This website is through Apretude and helps find financial support programs that assist with out-of-pocket costs associated with PrEP. Apply .
  • Gilead's Medication Assistance Program for PrEP. This Program covers up to $7200 in co-pays per year without a monthly limit. This program is only available to those with commercial insurance (i.e. not Medicaid). Apply .

For those uninsured or not eligible for Medicaid, there are some other programs to assist with cost. These include:

  • Medicaid. Apply at
  • Ready, Set, PrEP. PrEP medication available at no cost; lab testing and clinic visits are income-dependent. Eligibility requirements: uninsured, HIV-negative, PrEP prescription, live in the UH. Apply on the Ready, Set, PrEP .
